Joe Ray Singleton was born December 6, 1928, in Joplin, TX. He died on June 22, 2020, at 91 years of age, in Mineral Wells, TX.
Joe was involved in farming and ranching in Texas and New Mexico since his childhood. As a young adult, he picked cotton and followed the wheat harvest with his brothers. Joe graduated from Texas Tech University in 1950 with a degree in Agriculture. He always loved raising cattle, trading land and making deals. He worked as a county agent in Harris, Matagorda and Galveston counties for 16 years. He and Merle were married in 1958. In 1966 they moved to Graford to live on their farm. Joe taught Junior High science in Mineral Wells, TX for 21 years. Upon retirement, he enjoyed working on the farm, traveling and serving on the PPARB. Joe was a Mason for over 60 years. Joe’s life was guided by a strong faith in God and his love of family.
Joe is survived by his wife Merle; his daughter, Dawn and his son, Galen and wife, Leslie. There are 2 much loved “grandchildren” Zoey Baggett and Zane Bounds. Joe is also survived by his sister, Maxine Cooper; brother, John Singleton; as well as many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Erna Singleton and siblings, T.F. Singleton, Helen Rogers, Gerald Singleton and Carrie Singleton.
A memorial celebration of his life and potluck lunch will be held at the Palo Pinto Sheriff’s Posse Building, 1300 FM 1821, Mineral Wells, TX on Saturday, June 27th, 2020 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Friends and family are invited to share memories.
