Joe Shewmake

Joe Lewis Shewmake, 86, of Mineral Wells peacefully passed on Thursday, February 23, 2017. Joe was born on September 2, 1930 and is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lena Conn Shewmake. Joe leaves behind his sister, Billie Harrison of Mississippi; daughter Sandra Halford and her spouse, Charley of El Paso, daughter Linda Shewmake of Mineral Wells; granddaughter Ashley Baden and her spouse, Adam of Oklahoma; granddaughter Kelsey Jones of Fort Worth; extended family and numerous friends. Born and raised in Mineral Wells, the son of O.T. and Lois Ladd Shewmake, he was an avid softball player. Joe played for many years and was known on the field as Smokey Joe. He was an active member of Salesville Baptist Church. He retired from the Mineral Wells Post Office in December 1990 after 33 years of service. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 27th, from 6pm to 8pm at BaumCarlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells. His service will be on Tuesday, February 28th, at 10am at Salesville Baptist Church and will be officiated by Pastor Lonnie DeArmond. Joe will be laid to rest at Salesville Cemetery.
