Jimmy Washburn 82 of Fort Worth passed away on October 29, 2012. He was born December 14, 1929 in Bristow, Oklahoma to James and Pearl (Isbell) Washburn. Jimmy gave many years of his life to the military service and his country; eventually he retired from the Air Force with over 23 years of service. He loved every form of sports including softball, football and golf, whether watching them or participating in them. The University of Oklahoma Sooners was his favorite team to root for. He was an avid reader of war and western novels, especially Louis Lamour. Jimmy also found time to care for animals, which he loved dearly. Cats and dogs always had a welcome home with him and he couldn't stand to see an animal mistreated. Jimmy had a special place in his heart for Big Brothers and Big Sisters; he used his degree in social work from UTA to guide and help many children in his lifetime. Jimmy is survived by his sister, Mary Ellen Holder of Santa Fe, TX, sister-in-law Norma Smith of Fort Worth, his granddaughters, Jo Graham, Alicia Harrison, and Amanda Smith all of Mineral Wells, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Jerry Washburn, wife Joanne Vickroy Washburn, son David Washburn, daughter Sherrill Harrison, grandson Jimmy Harrison, Jr., and great-granddaughter Beth Ann Harrison. The family will be providing a memorial service at City View Community Church, 3800 Ram Blvd in Mineral Wells on November 10, 2012 at 11:00 AM.
