A lifelong resident of Mineral Wells, Texas, Jimmy Allen Ashby, 76, died Wednesday, May 1, 2019.Service is 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Mineral Wells.Jim was born May 29, 1942, in Mineral Wells, Texas, to James Walter Ashby and Teddie Haning Ashby. A lifelong resident, Jim graduated Mineral Wells High School in 1960. He attended Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University School of Law, earning his Bachelor of Arts (1965) and his Doctor of Jurisprudence (1970). Jim practiced law in Mineral Wells for nearly 50 years, graciously serving as City Attorney (1973-1976), County Attorney (1977-1980, 2016-present), and District Attorney (1981-1986). He was also Local Counsel for the Palo Pinto County Hospital District in 1995, serving proudly for 21 years. Throughout his legal career, Jim counseled hundreds of individuals, families and businesses with legal issues. He truly was a man of the people.Jim was an active member of the Mineral Wells Rotary Club (President, 1975-1976), Palo Pinto County Bar Association, and was a Fellow of the Texas Bar College.Jim loved to spend time with his family. Whether it be fishing at a local watering hole or watching college football and basketball, as long as Poppie was near his family he was satisfied.Jim is survived by his wife, Linda Kay Ashby; his son, Jason Breisch and wife, Stefani Breisch; his daughter, Jaime Prestwood and husband, Chad Prestwood; his daughter, Jennifer Stern and husband, David Stern; six grandchildren, Zachary Connor Prestwood, Macy Paige Prestwood, Micah Alley Breisch, Levi Patrick Stern, Jacob Jinks Breisch and Finley Leigh Stern; his brother, Walter Ashby and wife, Gail Ashby; his sister, Mary Livingston and husband, Wayne Livingston; nieces and nephews, Beth Ann Jones, Becky Castro, Janie Beth Livingston, T.J.
