Jimmie Ray Petty, 88, of Mineral Wells, Texas passed away surrounded by his family on June 25, 2020. Services will be held on Sunday, June 28 at Dobbs Valley Baptist Church south of Mineral Wells. Visitation will be at the church at 2 p.m. followed by funeral service at 3 p.m. Graveside service will be at Dobbs Valley Cemetery. Jim was born on November 27, 1931 to O.D. and Betty Petty in Santo, Texas. He grew up in a large family with five sisters and seven brothers. After graduating from Santo High School he served in the U.S. Army. He then married Barbara Ann Clements in 1962 and had two children, Phyllis and Steven. He and Barbara had a loving marriage of 57 years.
Jim was employed by General Dynamics for 10 years and Bell Helicopter for 32 years. During this time he was a thirty-second degree Moslah Shriner, serving a 50-year membership, and was a past deacon at Northside Baptist Church in Mineral Wells. Some of his lesser known activities during his early years included being a roller skating rink bouncer, running a hamburger stand with his brother Bill and becoming a certified scuba diver at Possum Kingdom Lake. After retiring, Jim enjoyed his time tending his orchard and supporting his beloved grandchildren never missing a game, dance recital or stock show.
Jim is survived by his wife Barbara Petty; son, Steven Petty and wife Michelle; daughter, Phyllis Glidewell and husband Weldon; grandchildren, Gage Glidewell, Jordan Manning and husband Lee, Addison, Ainsley and Ashlynn Petty; brothers, Durwood Petty and wife Shirley, Horace Petty and wife Linda, Denzel Petty, Kenneth Petty and Gerald Petty; sisters, Nina Vanderweide and husband John, Evelyn Ferguson and Janice Harrington and husband Larry; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Gage Glidewell, Curtis Harvey, Jeff Petty, Mark Petty, Matt Petty and Todd Petty. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Bill and Olen Petty and sisters, Sue Gladtz and Imogene Pierson.
The family would especially like to thank the staff of Mineral Wells Nursing and Rehab and Solaris Hospice for their constant attentive treatment.
