Jesse William Harmon, 78 of Lipan, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 20, 2009. Funeral services will be 2 pm Thursday at the First Baptist Church with Larry Harmon officiating. Burial will be in the Woodland Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lee Hampton, Jeffrey Hampton, Patrick Jones, Jesse Jones, Gary Jones and Neil Hampton. Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd Creed, Gene Pittman, Perry Bryant, Kenneth Blake, Larry Harrington, Jack Dunlap, Mike Hodel and Troy Pate. Visitation will be 7-9 Wednesday.Jesse was born in Chillicothe, TX on February 15, 1931 to Mary Ann and Lee Ander Harmon. He grew up in Quanah, TX and graduated from there in 1948. Jesse was active in the school band and managed equipment for all the high school sports teams.Jesse worked in the grocery business in Quanah, Abilene, Copperas Cove and Mineral Wells, TX. He is the former owner of Southside grocery in Mineral Wells, Granbury Supermart and Lake Whitney Grocery. Additionally, Jesse was the founder and owner of Harmon's Short Stops and Harmon's Pak-A-Sak's; two convenience store chains in the North Central Texas region.Jesse loved sports of all levels and was a great sponsor of the Mineral Wells High School Athletic Department. Jesse was involved with development and sponsorship of the Mineral Wells Golden Glove Boxing Team.Jesse was a loving husband and father and will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.Jesse is survived by his loving wife of 59 years; the former Sandra Gail Dunlap of Quanah, TX who resides in Lipan, TX; brother, Claude Harmon and wife of Arlington, TX; daughters, Mary Jones and husband, Gary Jones of Arlington, TX, Gail Hampton and husband Neil Hampton of Fort Worth, TX and Helen Harmon of Lake Worth, TX; four grandsons, Patrick Jones, Jesse Jones, Lee Hampton and Jeffrey Hampton.Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers.
