Jess N. Turner, Jr., of Mineral Wells, passed away at age 93 at an assisted living facility in Weatherford, Texas on August 4, 2014. Jess was born in Graford, Texas on May 12, 1921, the son of the late Annie Laura (Johnson) and Jess N. Turner, Sr.He attended Tarleton State, Luscombe School of Aeronautics, and TWC in Fort Worth, Texas where he met the love of his life, Mary Louise Cannon. They married on April 12, 1942 in Fort Worth and enjoyed 71 years of marriage. During WWII he served in the Army Air Force. Together Jess and Mary built Palo Pinto Telephone Co., which they owned and operated for over 25 years. After the company was sold he focused on ranching and his many community service activities.He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mineral Wells, a former member and past President of Holiday Hills Country Club, a former member and past president of the Palo Pinto County Hospital District Board of Directors, a former member and past president of the Palo Pinto County Municipal Water District Board of Directors, former member of the Farm Bureau Board of Directors, former director of Mineral Wells Savings and Loan, and former member and director of the Palo Pinto County Livestock Association.Survivors are: son, Jess (Sonny) and wife, Kaye Turner; daughter, Laura and husband, Tom Blong; daughter, Pat Turner; grandchildren: Derek Turner; Keri and husband, Ricky Stuart; Jared and wife, Lori Blong; and Jody Hatch; great-grandchildren: Trey Stuart; Merritt, Caleb and Jess Blong; and Avery and Will Turner; brother, Charles Turner; sister-in-law, Inez and brother-in-law, Mc Howe; and many other loving family members.Memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church, Texas Chapter of National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 8111 N. Stadium Drive, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77054, or charity of your choice.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 16 at 2:00 pm, at the First United Methodist Church of Mineral Wells. The family will greet friends at the church following the service.
