Memorial Services for Jerry Wayne Williams, 64, will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 20, at Southside Church of Christ with Senior Minister and Mineral Wells Fire Department Chaplain William Eudy officiating. Family visitation will be conducted in the Family Life Center of the Church immediately following the services.Jerry Williams was born June 8, 1943, in Wise County, Virginia, to Wallace and Kathleen Williams. He attended J. J. Kelly High School where he played football and basketball. Economic times forced him to drive a school bus during his high school career. He graduated from Kelly in 1962. He married his beloved Donna in Virginia and together they moved to Mineral Wells in the early 1970's where Jerry began working for B. H. (Tiny) Gilstrap at Welmac and Donna began a career in the water billing department of the City of Mineral Wells.Jerry was introduced into the fire service in Mineral Wells when his boss, Tiny Gilstrap, who was also the fire chief in Mineral Wells, coerced him into joining the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department on June 15, 1981. Jerry found his true calling in serving others and began a career in fire and EMS that spanned twenty five years. He graduated from the Texas A & M Fire School and the Weatherford College EMT program. Jerry joined the paid ranks of the Mineral Wells Fire/EMS on April 16, 1987, and retired on July 31, 2007, but retained his true love of serving others by remaining in the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department until his death.Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Donna. Survivors include his sisters Glenda Sturgill, Linda McCoy and Sarah Williams as well as brothers David Williams and Robert Williams and several nieces and nephews as well as the brotherhood and sisterhood of the fire service throughout Texas.Following his wishes, Jerry's ashes will be joined with Donna's and scattered in their beloved state of Virginia.
