Jerry Lee Fields went to be with his Lord and Saviour on April 5, 2024. Jerry was born on December 18, 1943, to Granville Lee Fields and Nona Raye Huskey, in Ladonia, Texas. He graduated from Fannindel High School in 1962, went to East Texas State Teachers’ College for two years, and graduated from University of Texas at Arlington in 1975. He worked as a geophysicist at Mobil Oil until retiring in 1993.
In 1975, he married Mary Sikes Schold in San Antonio, Texas. They were married for 48 years and had two daughters, Jennifer and Rebecca.
Jerry excelled at basketball and football in high school, winning a full basketball scholarship for his first year in college. He was in Delta Sigma Phi.
His hobbies included painting, drawing, wood burning, flying, and photography. He played guitar and banjo. He obtained a private pilot’s license. He and Mary attended ballroom and country dance lessons. He was a devout Christian, reading through the whole Bible every year over coffee with Mary. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and puns.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Sikes Fields, a sister, Martha Fields Crews, a son, Tracy Lee Oaks and wife Kelly Ann Oaks; daughters Jennifer Ruth Fields and husband Michael Sean Byfield; and Rebecca Raye Fields Bennie and husband Michael Shannon Bennie; stepdaughter, Katrina Louise Schold and husband Pat Everett Ramsey; grandchildren Spencer Garman Oaks, Emerson Reed Oaks and wife Precious Leal Oaks; Mikayla Grace Oaks, Chloe Esther Oaks, Chris Schold-Bourland and wife Savannah Danielle Bethke, Savannah Leigh Bennie and Kaytlin Raye Bennie; great grandson Waylon Rhodes Oaks.
He was preceded in death by Granville Lee Fields, Nona Raye Huskey Fields, brother, Glen Ray Fields, and brother-in-law, Rickey Harlin Crews.
There will be a visitation at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner in Mineral Wells on Friday, April 12, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Graveside service will be at Center Point Cemetery in Ladonia, Texas, on Saturday, April 13 at 11:00 A.M. A memorial service will be held in the First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells on Sunday, April 14 at 2:00 P.M. Those wishing to send flowers may send them to Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner in Mineral Wells.
