Sam Maddux, 62 passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010 surrounded by loved ones at his home in Mineral Wells, TX. The family will be available for visitation, Friday, June 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Baum Carlock Bumgardner in Mineral Wells, TX. A celebration of Sam's life will be held Saturday, June 26, at 9:30 am at the First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells where Sam was a member. Burial will be at the Brock Cemetery in Brock, TX on land that was donated by the Maddux family who were early settlers of the Brock Community.Sam was born October 31, 1947 in Weatherford, TX. He graduated from Brock High School in 1965, achieving a perfect attendance record for his twelve years of school. This is also where Sam met and married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Glenn on September 8, 1967. They had two children, James Scott and Angela Helen. Sam served in the Army National Guard and worked at Cantex Industries in Mineral Wells, TX and Sparta, TN. Sam is most recently known for his operation of Shirley Pest Control, entering the business in 1982 and continuing until 2008 when his health began to decline. At that time his niece and nephew, Edie and Clay Martin acquired the business. Sam's outgoing personality was a perfect fit for the business and it made him many friends over the years.Sam is survived by his wife Shirley, son Scott, daughter Angie, grandson Riley, daughter-in-law Stacy Maddux, sister Edith (Maddux) Robinson and brother-in-law Bill Robinson and a host of other family members and friends. Sam was preceded in death by his mother and father, Helen (Hildebrand) Maddux and James (Jimmy) Franklin Maddux of Brock and his sister Ada Faye McFarland of Fort Worth. We extend a special thank you to Sam's caregivers, Jamie Viles, Glenda Marsden and Integra Care Hospice for their wonderful care and their ability to provide much love and encouragement during his final years. Pallbearers are Bobby Crabtree, David Denson, AD Garrett, Randy Lee, Earmon Lovern, Rick Mahan, Leo Neely and Mike Santibanez. Donations may be made in memory of Sam to the American Diabetes Association.
