James Brooks

On Friday, January 26, 2018, James Arthur Brooks, 83, passed away at his Weatherford, Texas home. James was born in Throckmorton County, Texas in 1934 to John H. and Carrie O. (Murray) Brooks. In 1953 James married his high school sweetheart Betty Jean Martin in Palo Pinto County. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. James proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1976, during which time he traveled the world. James was an avid fisherman. Not only did he fish in various lakes, rivers and streams in Texas and New Mexico, he also went ice fishing in Minnesota, and sport fishing off the coast of Catalina, California. James is survived by his wife, his son James Arthur Brooks, Jr., and his daughters Rebecca Jean Rayburn and Katherine Teresa Shipman, as well as four granddaughters and five great-grandchildren. James is also survived by two brothers: Jimmy L. Brooks (Gloria) and Benny R. Brooks; and two sisters: Barbara A. Martin and Bonnie J. Price, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Memorial services will be 10 AM Saturday, February 3, 2018 in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel.
