Jack Randolph Harrington, 86, of Mineral Wells, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2009 in a Mineral Wells hospital. Funeral services will be 2 PM Friday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Myron Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Woodland Park Cemetery. Military personnel from Fort Hood Army Base will provide graveside honors. Mr. Harrington was born July 5, 1923 in Bloomburg, TX, the son of Joseph Charles and Mary Rose Fowler Harrington. He joined the army when he was 19 years old and participated in the Normandy Invasion, the Battle of the Bulge, and in the battle at the bridge at Remagen. He was also in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe serving with the 78th infantry "lightening division" of the 552nd anti-aircraft battalion, 1st U.S. Army during World War 2. He married Jean Day, October 9, 1948 in Mineral Wells and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a heavy equipment operator with the Texas State Highway Department where he retired, then with Upham Oil Company for ten year. He loved to hunt and fish, watch sports on television and especially enjoyed his morning coffee club. Survivors include his wife, Jean Harrington of Mineral Wells; daughters, Tina Jackson of Mineral Wels and Jackie Harrington of Dallas; granddaughter, Rebecca Jackson of Louisiana; sister, Ruby Shires of Eureka, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Freddie and Margaret Harrington of Mineral Wells and Letha Harrington of Campbell, Texas. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
