Ivory (Pat) Melvin Garrett passed away in Weatherford, Texas on Monday, August 30, 2021.
He was born on May 11, 1928 in Mineral Wells, Texas to Ivory Teague Garrett and Lizzie Davis Garrett. Ivory married Virginia Bell Bosley April 3, 1950 in Weatherford, TX. They were blessed with six children. Ivory served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Libya, Africa. After serving in the military, Ivory owned and operated Garrett Roofing and Insulation, working alongside his two sons. He was a member of The American Legion and Knights of Pythias in Mineral Wells.
After retiring, Ivory spent his mornings enjoying the company of his friends at the local coffee shops in Mineral Wells and returned to his ranch to work until sundown on various projects. He taught his family that age is not a restriction to hard work. Even into his nineties, he was driving, building fences and working on his farm equipment. Ivory enjoyed tending his gardens and caring for his farm animals. When he did slow down, Ivory could be seen in his big recliner enjoying an endless supply of western novels and western shows on his television. He was devoted, until his last breath, to his wife Virginia, who he visited regularly after a series of strokes caused her to require care in a nursing facility.
Ivory was reunited beyond the veil with his wife of 71 years, Virginia, who passed on August 18, 2021. He was survived by children, Kathren Stewart and husband Bobby, Victoria Nelson, Deborah Dunnigan and husband Harold, Tommy Garrett, David Garrett, Diana Davis and husband Gregory; grandchildren Matthew Thompson, Railea Sandoval and spouse Daniel, Trenton Stewart, Dr. Eric Nelson, Veronica Nelson, James Dunnigan, Kayan Dunnigan, Cooper Davis and Riley Davis; great grandchildren Devon Sandoval, Victoria Sandoval, Andrew Holmes and Ethan Holmes; and his sisters Doris Hardin and Wanda Savage.
