Irene Maples Rogers, 83, of Mineral Wells, passed away Monday, December 15, 2008. Funeral services will be 10 am Friday at the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel with burial in the Woodland Park Cemetery. Rev. Barry Holmes will officiate and the pallbearers will be Rick and Randy Shank, Whitney Seals, Johnny Shannon, Kenneth Pendergraft and Roger Hensley and the honorary pallbearers will be Justin Maples, Austin and Louis Kline.She was born September 13, 1925 in Peach Orchard, Arkansas, to George and Agnes Forbes Smotherman. She married William Odell "Shorty" Maples who preceded her in death in 1980. She married John Rogers July 15, 1983, in Mineral Wells. She lived in Mineral Wells, Texas for the past 53 years and baby-sat many children in the community. Mother had a caring, kind heart and laughed easily and often. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was known as "Granny". She had a passion for fishing and went to Alaska every summer to fish the Kenai River. Her home was always open and she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Her interests included playing games, bowling, dancing, and going to garage sales and Oklahoma to play slots.Irene is survived by her husband, John Rogers, of 25 years; daughters and sons-in-law Odeana and Raymond Hernandez, Wanda and Richard Hart of Mineral Wells, Bonnie and Robert Richard of Soldotna, Alaska and daughter-in-law Mary Maples Pendergraft of Mineral Wells; sister Velma Storms of Paragould, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; four stepdaughters; 11 step grandchildren; 3 step great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Clayburn Maynard, first husband, William, and son, Patrick "Pete" Maples.
