Helen Ruth Slemmons

Helen Ruth Slemmons is now in the Lord's loving arms; she passed June 26, 2015. Visitation will be Friday 6-8PM in the funeral home annex. Service will be Saturday June, 27, 2015 2PM at Southside Church of Christ. Helen was born in Graford, Texas on October 20, 1925 to Ida Mae and William Arthur Shewmake. She was raised at Graford, one of seven children. She was married to Curtis Slemmons on July, 2 1948. Helen had planned on being a career girl, but love took over and she worked with Curtis on their ranch in Brad, Texas and raised three children. On July, 1 1970 she started working as a Deputy District Clerk; she had raised her children and was now excited to be working for the public. On August 16, 1974 she was appointed District Clerk of Palo Pinto by Judge Herman Fitts. She continued serving her county until she retired on February 29, 2004. Survivors are children, Alan Slemmons and wife Jane, Linda Slemmons Pilgrim, and Ralph Slemmons and wife Deanna; Helen's sister Billie Sue Anderson; grandchildren, Don Alan Slemmons, Brooke Slemmons Jenkins, Shane Slemmons, Tara Slemmons Spieker, Cody Pilgrim and Carson Pilgrim; great-grandchildren, Hannah Pilgrim, Holton Pilgrim, Hollie Pilgrim, Chloe Pilgrim, Josie Pilgrim, Russell Jenkins, Paige Jenkins, Chase Spieker, Hayden Slemmons and Evan Slemmons. She was preceded by her husband Curtis Slemmons; mother and father, Arthur and Ida Shewmake; brothers, Jim Jiggs, Cotton and Cedar Shewmake and one sister Opal Shewmake Austin.
