Helen Virginia Lewis (Ginger)
Entered this world on April 11, 1937 in Floydada, Texas...and was welcomed by Jesus to her new home in Heaven in the early morning hours of November 8, 2023 when she slipped peacefully from this Earth, with her family by her side into her saviors arms.
She grew up in several small Texas towns finally settling during her high school years in Millsap, Texas where she was a shining basketball star , often voted class favorite (which isn't surprising at all) and was selected as the Homecoming Queen her senior year.
Several years later she was employed at Edo-Air Mitchell where she worked hard providing the very best she could for herself and her three children.
In 1977 she married the Santo School Principal and Football Coach WA Lewis who preceded her in death in December of 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents Virgie and Dewey Leatherman , her sister Betty Wright and brothers Ronnie and Donny Leatherman.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Santo for 50 years!
She made many lifelong friends during her years spent in Santo and the surrounding area and in Mineral Wells where she worked for years at Farm Bureau Insurance.
She enjoyed many simple things in life... a couple of her favorites were visiting her home place in Millsap where she enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren fish and have picnic lunches. She also loved her beautiful place in Arkansas that God blessed her with...A place where she could relish in the beauty of nature.
She was amazing at crochet and made some of the most beautiful bedspreads and afghans you have ever seen.
She poured her heart and soul into everything that meant something significant to the ones she loved. The most selfless woman you would ever meet and ...I don't think she ever met anyone she didn't like (or if she did, she didn't show it!)
She made us ALL realize that it's not in the things we possess that make our lives of worth...but in the relationships we enjoy, and Ginger modeled that truth before EVERYONE she knew...
She is survived by a family who loved her so dearly. A family who stayed and visited with her around the clock...every minute of every day for months while in the hospital , rehab and once she returned to the home she loved so much where she peacefully and happily lived out her last days. A family who will miss her far beyond what words can adequately express. A family who is so happy for her and what she’s experiencing now in Heaven but equally as sad for the loss of their mother and Grandmomma.
Ginger was a selfless, loving, Mother to Cheryl and Richard Ator , Christi and Armando Benavides and to Michael and Kim Wright ..a precious and cherished grandmother to Nicky and Andy Herring, Andy and Amanda Snider, Amanda and Bobby Clevenger, Kaitlyn and Josiah North, Kori and Jake Morton and Rebecca Ator. She was great-grandmother, to Andi, Ty and Dru Herring, Milo and Jasper, Zoey and Kade Clevenger, Natalie and Jonah North, and a devoted friend and confidant to a multitude of friends who loved her and simply called her 'Ginger’. Even though her voice is silent now and we can't visit her or see her smile ,hear her laugh or feel the warmth of her hugs...we know where she is and we too long for the day when we will cross the divide ourselves and see her with that one-of-a-kind SMILE waiting at the gate to greet us!
She's in Heaven now and Heaven is the ABSENCE of pain, sorrow and separation…that’s why we call it HOME…and I'm certain she would tell us now…THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME!
