Gwonda Jane Golightley

July 16, 1930 — January 1, 1900

Gwonda Jane Golightley was born on July 16, 1930 to Thomas Osa and Gladys Mamie Sample McCarley. She was the first baby born in the Weedn Hospital in Marlow, Oklahoma. She died February 7, 2016 in Fort Worth, TX. She had many talents. She used her sewing skills to pay for her college as she learned to upholster furniture. The tailoring classes that she took in college gave her the skills to create suits and other clothing for her husband and growing children. She often created outfits for friends and others through the years. She worked at different times for a niche clothing store and a fabric store. However her passion was working with children. She worked for many years in the day care at First Baptist Church in Grand Prairie which two of her grandchildren attended. She worked with the two year olds with her husband at Calvary Baptist Church in Mineral Wells for many years. She was on the homebound committee and enjoyed visiting those that belonged to the church. Gwonda was a member of several square dancing clubs and was still square dancing at 80 years old, often at local nursing homes.She was preceded in death by her husband, Leeland Johnston Golightley; parents, Gladys and Osa McCarley; son, Brent Golightley, and daughter, Lynn Taylor. She is survived by children, Lela and Robert Evans of DeSoto, Bobby and Karen Golightley of Grand Prairie, Barbara Davidson of Mineral Wells, Kathy and Robert Bynum of Mineral Wells, and Bryan Golightley of DeSoto. Grandchildren Katy Marchant, Noah Evans, John and Michael Roth, Carrie Lloyd, Thomas and Bethany Davidson, Amy Worthel, Billy and Michael Lane, Holly Backland, Tim Alford, and Bryan J. Golightley. She is also survived by Great Grandchildren, Eryn and Kenneth Marchant, Clay and Rainey Backland, Rafael and Gebron Rendon and Kalen Lane.Services will be held on February 13, 2016 at 2:00pm with viewing preceding the service at 1:00pm at Calvary Baptist Church in Mineral Wells, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Camp Copass in Denton or a charity of your choice.
