Guadalupe “Lupe” Valtierra, 97, passed away on April 4, 2023 peacefully at home with his wife and family by his side.
Lupe was born on November 14, 1925, in San Marcos, TX, to Tirzo and Maria Valtierra. He graduated from Weatherford High School. He served in both the Navy and the Marines, in World War II, during the capture of Iwo Jima. Lupe moved to Mineral Wells, TX in 1966. He later retired from the Civil Service. He then went on to work at The Man’s Shop and The Gentleman’s Closet. After many years, he worked in a local alteration shop until he retired in his 80’s. He coached many young men in baseball including his son and grandson. He loved fishing and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Lupe’s legacy will always be remembered as a kindhearted, generous man who made an impact on many people during his life.
He will be missed by so many. If love could have saved him, he would have lived forever.
Lupe is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth; his son, Nicky; his daughter, Shari, and their loved ones. He was the best Papa to his grandchildren, Madi and her husband Shane, Marcus, and Tayley. He is also survived by his sisters, Petra Cantu, Adelaide Valtierra, Julie Willingham; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Delaine; great-grandchild, Baby Scott; his brothers Jesse, Bill, and Angel; and his sister, Juanita.
Visitation is 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Services are 2 PM Tuesday at 11th Avenue Church. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
