Gordon Hance Stewart

Gordon Hance Stewart went to be with his Savior on February 9, 2022 at his home in Graford, Texas under the care of his wife and family. He was born March 23, 1931 to Ben and Joe Marie Stewart in Palo Pinto County.

Gordon was a cotton, peanut, and wheat farmer who also raised cattle in Palo Pinto County for 75 plus years. Gordon married the love of his life, Ruby Inez Lyon, on November 14, 1948. He served God as a Baptist Deacon and most recently as a member at Indian Creek Baptist Church in Mineral Wells. Gordon was a family man as shown in his love for his wife of 73 years. He served as the patriarch for his family and for his siblings’ families when needed. He always fed family and neighbors with a garden he planted, harvested, and preserved alongside Inez and his children. Gordon was a storyteller and fortunately Inez was a good listener. The couple loved fishing and RVing with the Good Sams and Western Wheelers all over the United States. He often served as club cook.

Gordon is survived by his wife Inez; daughter, Martha Ann and her husband Frank Tandy of Weatherford, Texas; daughter, Ruby Janet Richardson of Mineral Wells, Texas; and son Ben Hance Stewart and his wife Terri of Wichita Falls, Texas. He had seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren with one on the way and 4 great-great grandchildren with one on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Annie Wilson, Loretta Hurley, Bennie Stewart and Pickens Stewart. He was also preceded in death by his son in law Billy Richardson.

Visitation is at Baum Carlock Funeral Home in Mineral Wells Thursday, February 10 from 6-8 PM. Friday, February 11 Indian Creek Baptist Church will provide lunch at 12:00, with the funeral at 2:00 at the church with Pastor Jake Grogan officiating. Burial will be at Graford Cemetery.
