George Melvon "Shorty" Holland, 92, passed away May 4, 2018 at his home in Mineral Wells. He was born November 19, 1925 in the Sturdivant Community the son of George Randolph and Mattye Coffman Holland. He married Peggy Klein on May 23, 1953 in Mineral Wells. He was a longtime resident of Mineral Wells. He was a member of the Sturdivant Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon. He was one of the founding members of the Sturdivant Progress Water Corporation. He had served on the board of Sturdivant Cemetery. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in WWII. Services will be 10 AM, Tuesday, May 8, 2018 in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel with Drew Ratliff officiating. Burial will follow in Sturdivant Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years: Peggy Holland, daughters and sons-in-law: Penny Snow, Jeanie and Charlie Harvey, Marilyn and Butch Nimmo, grandsons: Greg and Brad Snow, Mitchell and Mark Gilley, Bryan Nimmo, great-grandsons: Mason, Nicholas, and Aubrey, sister: Frieda Putman, and brother: A. W. Holland. He was preceded in death by his son: Rodney Wayne Holland, parents, and brother: Kenneth Holland.
