Geneva "Genny" Tarkenton

Geneva “Genny” Tarkenton passed away February 23, 2024 at the age of 92. Genny was born in Abernathy, Texas but considered herself a proud local resident living out the last 58 years of her life in Mineral Wells. 

She leaves behind a bright history. Genny had a passion for the growth and development of Mineral Wells and was active in many community activities, including serving as president of the Zonta Club and being one of the founding members of Crystal Christmas. She worked in administration at Palo Pinto General Hospital and also served on the hospital board for many years. Genny opened a children’s clothing store known as Genny’s Lit’l Luvs, where she took pride in outfitting her grandchildren and other children in the community. She was also an office manager for the Women’s and Medical Pavilion, where she helped promote her sons’ businesses. Genny enjoyed being involved in her community, along with entertaining and socializing with those around her. She could be known for her purple house on Lakeview Drive. In this house, she raised 3 sons with her husband Mickey. Genny might also be known for dressing up as Minnie Mouse when the opportunity would arise. She enjoyed a cup of coffee any time of day and would happily skip dinner for dessert. Genny was proud of her family and would show up to support them in any way she could. Her bright cheerful spirit will be missed by many. Genny is preceded in death by her husband Mickey, two brothers, and a sister. 

She is survived by brother-in-law Don, sons Terry and wife Vicki, Tim and wife Kay, and Tom and wife Cindy. She is survived by many grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as “Meme”; April, Ashley (Preston), Tera, Tavisty (Michael), Talon, Tahnae (Winston), Taci (Mark), and Addisyn. Along with 6 great-grandchildren, some of which referred to her as “Gigi”. 

Visitation will be held Thursday February 29th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells, with the funeral service to be Friday March 1st at 2:00 PM. Interment will be in Woodland Park Cemetery.
