Gary Max Rozzell

Gary Max Rozzell was born on October 28th, 1950 in Vernon, Texas to Max Dewey and Mary Lou Rozzell and went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 21^st, 2021. 

Gary moved around a lot as a kid due to his dad working on off-shore oil rigs. He was baptized at Easthaven Baptist Church in Brookhaven, Mississippi.  He graduated high school from Bultler, Alabama in 1969.  After attending Livingston University, Gary joined the Army and went to basic Army Flight School at Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells, Texas.  He was then deployed to Vietnam where he achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer II, piloting a Huey Helicopter.  He was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross and a Bronze Star for his actions during the War.

After returning home from Vietnam, he met the love of his life, Kathy, and married on December 1^st, 1973 in Davidson, Oklahoma.  Gary started his law enforcement career in 1979 for the Frederick Oklahoma Police Department where he was promoted to Assistant Chief of Police.  He later transferred to the Vernon Police Department where he worked for a number of years.  He joined the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1984, and was first stationed in Aspermont, transferring back to Vernon and working there from 1988 to 2000. In 2000 he transferred to Safety Education moving him to Mineral Wells, Texas where he retired as a Senior Trooper with thirty years of service.

Throughout his life, Gary was always involved in his community.  From being an Eaglescout to Scout Master, Jay Cees in Aspermont, a Volunteer Fireman in Aspermont and Vernon, National Guard in Vernon, Docent at the Civil War Museum in Fort Worth, a Member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and an Instructor for the Weatherford College Police Academy.

Gary is survived by his wife Kathy Tucker Rozzell of Mineral Wells; his son Gary Len Rozzell and wife Sara of Weatherford, Texas; his daughter Karen Rozzell Fox and husband Ronnie of Electra, Texas; his grandchildren Tristyn, Mykila, Garyn, CJ, and Kamdyn; his sisters Debbie Howe and husband Don of Mansfield, Texas and Yvonna Brown and husband Alan or Elliot, Texas; and four nephews, two nieces, and numerous great nieces and nephews. 

Gary is preceded in death by his parents Max and Mary Lou and nephews Anthony Walker and Aaron Hook.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 27 at Mineral Wells Church of God, 2501 SE 14^th Ave, Mineral Wells, Tx 76067. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at North Side Baptist Church, 910 N. Main St, Weatherford, Tx 76086. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Tx 75211.
