Brazos - Emmitt Edward Smith, son of Otto Smith and Euna Bleeker Smith, finished his Earthly journey Thursday, March 1st, 2012. Emmitt was born September 17, 1930, in Palo Pinto County, TX. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. On his return to Texas he married Jeraldeen Boyd, of Fort Worth, on October 4, 1952. They settled in Arlington, TX and had three sons. Emmitt retired after 25 years of service as a foreman for General Motors. Emmitt and Jeri returned to Brazos to enjoy their retirement. Emmitt was an ordained deacon at First Baptist Church of Santo. He also was a Master Mason for 50 years; most recently with Santo Lodge, no. 836. Emmitt served his community as a board member of the Santo Water Supply Corp. He served as president and secretary of Santo North Cemetery. His community service and friendly nature earned him many friends. Survivors: wife of 59 years, Jeraldeen Boyd Smith; children David, Monte, and Bruce Smith; sister Franna Brian Smith, brothers Newman, Donald, and Gary Smith; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends. Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday at 1st Baptist Church of Santo.
