Emmitt Muniz

Emmitt Alvarez Muniz, 86, passed away Saturday May21, 2011. Funeral mass is 1 :00 pm Wednesday, May 25, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Park Cemetery in Mineral Wells. Rosary is 6:30 pm Tuesday at Baum-Carlock Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells. Emmitt was born October 31,1924 in Nordheim, Texas parents Mauro and Juanita Muniz. He was raised in the surrounding areas where he met and married his wife of 60 years, Anita Tamayo. In the late 1950s Emmitt moved his family to Mineral Wells where he saw a great community to raise his family and start his business. Emmitt owned and operated Capitol Paint and Body Shop and his many business ventures included a snow cone stand, taco stand, restaurant and a Laundromat. He also, worked with the Texas Highway Patrol Dept and Fort Wolters Fire Dept. Emmitt loved Mineral Wells and was proud to be a part of the city celebrations. Parades and rodeos were his favorite. Many will remember him as he rode his horse or motorcycle or drove his crazy cars dressed up in his full Mexican regalia. Emmitt is survived by his daughter Erma Muniz of Mineral Wells and her life companion Michael Goren of Winthrop, Massachusetts; son, Dierro Muniz of Mineral Wells; granddaughter Penny Perez, grandson Donny Perez and wife Pam of Mineral Wells; sisters Juanita Cavazos of Corpus Christi, Ester Mata of Alice, Texas; brother Pedro Muniz of San Antonio; brother-inlaw Ramon Villa Sr. of Victoria, numerous nieces and nephews, and the father of the grandchildren, Gilbert Perez. Emmitt is preceded in death by his loving wife Anita Tamayo Muniz of Mineral Wells; brothers Elias Muniz, Benito Muniz, Gerardo Muniz, and Raul Muniz; sisters Y gnacia Villa, Teresa Rojas, Enriqueta Cabrera, and Ofelia Hinojosa. Emmitt was a remarkable man and will be greatly missed.
