Elvira (Veda) Vela Lee, loving mother and grandmother, passed away Monday, March 30, 2020. She was born October 12, 1921 in Rio Grande City, Texas to Cecilio and Demetria Vela. Veda married Ambrous Lee, who was enlisted in the F Troop Cavalry, on October 31, 1942. Veda and her son moved to Mineral Wells in 1944 and were joined by her husband when the war was over. Veda loved to cook, sew and quilt. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Lifetime member of the Pythian Sisters, member of Willing Workers Quilting Club, the Bluebonnet Garden Club, and Texas County Extension Club. Veda was known for her baking especially at Christmas. She was also known to give the sanitation workers some of her baking with a cup of coffee in the mornings.
A graveside service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Woodland Park Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Survivors include her children, David R. Lee and wife Mary, Edward Larry Lee and wife Leslie, Janette Tatem and husband Bogie, Tena Brooks and husband Dale; grandchildren, Cody Tatem and wife Shelly, Jason Tatem, Licia Lee, Justin Lee and wife Jessica, Kenneth Lee and wife Robyn, Preston Brooks, Randall Brooks Thurman and husband Andy, Bradley Brooks, Emily Bibby and husband Jared, Allie Langley, and Lauren Stanley; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Jesus Vela; sister-in-law, Abbie Vela; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Veda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ambrous Lee; sisters, Connie Roberts and Tina Preston; and brother Ernesto Vela.
