Ellen Dean Crosson Trammell, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on September 22, 2023 at the age of 88.
Ellen was born on January 20, 1935 in Breckenridge, Texas, to Earl and Ruth Crosson. She married her husband, John “Jay” Trammell, in 1953 and they were happily married for nearly 63 years, until his passing in 2016. They made Palo Pinto County their home in August 1971 where she embraced the role of the rancher's wife preparing meals for herds of hungry cowboys on gathering days. She was an advocate of reading and education, sharing her passion for books with numerous students while serving as a school librarian and teaching assistant until she retired from Palo Pinto Elementary and Young World Daycare. She also volunteered as a member of the Palo Pinto County Fair board.
Ellen’s kind and gentle nature was always present, but never more so than when she was loving on a grandkid. She spent countless hours teaching them how to cook, sew, and make various other arts and crafts. Being the mother of 5 boys made her a strong, fierce woman who could also be sassy and witty when she wanted. There was always a twinkle in her eye when she was up to mischief.
Ellen is preceded in death by her husband, Jay, her parents, infant daughter Debra Kay, infant son Joel Wood, and siblings Wendell Crosson, Paul Crosson, Lorene Malone, Patricia Darden, Brenda Brothers, and Tommy Crosson. She is survived by her siblings Jenny Wester, Richard Crossen, and Steve Crossen; sons John and wife Brenda, Jeff and wife Margaret, Jimmy and wife Tonja, Jody and wife Cortney, and Jay and wife Stacy; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
