Dr. Robert A. Middleton M.D. completed his life's journey and went to be with our heavenly Father on April 28th, 2013; closing his eyes for the last time with his loving wife, brother and daughter by his side. A true patriot, he entered the United States Navy in 1940 and served as a Corpsman in the Second World War and Surface Warfare Officer during the Korean War. After military service, driven by an innate desire to help others, Robert received his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas in 1956. Dr. Middleton served as an abdominal surgeon and later devoted himself to the treatment of patients with cancer. He retired as the Chief Radiation Oncologist at the Dallas Veterans Administration Medical Center.Dr. Middleton was recognized as a scholar. He had a love of history, a knack for poetry and remained committed to lifelong learning as he encouraged all around him to pursue excellence in all life's endeavors.A loving husband, Robert gave his heart soul to his wife Dr. Rebecca Middleton. His unyielding commitment to family was never more present than in his later years as he and Rebecca raised their three children together. Robert's health deteriorated but his heart grew stronger as his capacity for love and compassion expanded.Understood by few, loved by those closest to him, and respected by all, Dr. Middleton was above all a caring and loving person who would do anything and everything in his power to help those in need.Dr. Middleton was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sisters Maureen and Ellen. He is survived by his wife Rebecca and their three children, daughter Ellen Middleton M.D. of Corpus Christi, TX; sons Maj. Brian Middleton (USMC) with wife Tonya, and John Middleton of Lubbock, TX; also brother John Middleton of Chazy, NY; additionally sons Bob and Mark; daughters Ann, Beth and Mary; survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.The service will be held at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells, Tx at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, May 4, 2013. A graveside service at the Whitt Memorial Cemetery and a Celebration of Life at the Middleton Ranch will follow.
