Doy Elwin Leatherman, 76, of Whitt, passed away Friday, February 12, 2010 when he was out feeding some cattle for a man. Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel with burial in the Indian Creek Cemetery. Rev. Brian Leatherman will officiate and the pallbearers will be Clyde McCun, Donny Pruitt, Milton Holmes, Allen Schultz, Bill Brock and Johnny Maulden. Mr. Leatherman was born December 7, 1933 in Erath County, Texas, the son of Prentice D. and Odie Howeth Leatherman. He married Darlene Pruitt, February 29, 1956 in Tolar, Texas. He was a machinist and had lived in Whitt since 1964. He was a member of the American legion. People often called on him to build their fences as well as a lot of other jobs. His dad taught him how to build a good fence when he was young. He tried to be a good hand at any job he worked. He would come and help people anytime of the day of night. He was a trustee at school for several years while his boys were in school. He loved hunting and did a lot of hunting in his younger years. He also liked to fish. He visited many people and never seemed to meet a stranger. He loved to talk and work and always wanted to stay busy. He was a Baptist and a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War.Survivors include his wife, Darlene Leatherman of Whitt; sons, Doy L. Leatherman and Pat D. Leatherman; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Elmer Leatherman and Dub Leatherman; sister, Shirley Davis; several nieces and nephews.
