Douglas Austin Hawes, 60, passed away January 14, 2013 at his home in Mineral Wells. He was born September 3, 1952 in Fort Worth the son of Samuel A. and Stella Marion Petri Hawes. Memorial Services will be 2 PM Monday, January 21, 2013 in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel with Chaplain Terry Mitchell officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service. My brother was a kind soul. He was devoted to our mother, and he sacrificed more than any of us could ever imagine in the care of our mother. As many of you know, he had many medical problems going all the way back to 1977. Despite that, he did the best he could and can never be faulted for trying to find his way through an unfamiliar world. I loved him dearly and he will be missed. We just spoke last week about how he wanted to come down for a visit and get reconnected with his niece and nephew Ali and Josh since he no longer carried the daily burden of looking after mom. I am sad for him and all of us. I believe that he still had more to give -- more than that which we had seen -- he just needed the opportunity. He was an Eagle Scout and did not know the word "no" when someone was in need. Sometimes he came across a little rough, but that just made him more interesting. He earned a degree in Plant Biology with Honors and a Master's in Agronomy from Tarleton State University. He spent the last 40 years of his life tending to the cattle business that he and mom built together. When mom failed in health, he stayed by her side and tended to her needs. I have to believe that mom's passing just took its toll on him. Heaven has been enriched with his passing and this world is much poorer. He is now Home with mom and dad. May God receive his soul and grant him the peace and serenity he so well deserves. Goodbye my Brother, I Love You. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law: Dave and Shirl Hawes, nephew: Joshua Hawes and wife Abby, and niece: Ali Buhay and husband Christian.
