Dorothy Sue Gatlin Long passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024 at her longtime homestead on Possum Kingdom Lake where she lived since 1949. She was born May 27th 1935 to the late Leon and Dora Gatlin of Jacksboro, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jakie Lincoln Long.
Dorothy spent her life in Palo Pinto County working as a nurse, raising her two sons, enjoying her grandkids, and supporting her friends and church family through many decades of love, prayer and wise counsel.
She was a prayer warrior counseling, witnessing, and lifting up those in need for many generations.
Her early life on the ranch saw her transition from ranch hand tomboy to a precocious beauty with Hollywood glamour. Her weekly wash and set, nails and makeup routine prevailed to the end throughout all obstacles…but underneath all the embellishment there was always a heart for faith, forgiveness and family. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her son Shane Long and Linda Long of Oran TX - Her son Coty Long and Rob Peters of Seattle WA - Beloved family Mary Smith, Chris Castillo and Paul Castillo - grandchildren Keith and Angel Long, Katy and Jason Brattis, and Seth Long - great grandchildren Brent Singleton, Isabella Long, Jaxton Brattis, Aryah Brattis and Kasen Brattis.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, February 29, 2024 at McAdams Cemetery. There will be a time of fellowship for friends and family following the graveside at the Community Church in Graford.
