Derwood Sims passed away September 30, 2017 in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. He was born in Valley Mills, Texas July 7, 1929. He was 88 years old. His parents were Lawrence Bateman Sims and Elby Rosamond Tyner Sims. He was a Naval Veteran of World War II, serving on the U.S.S. Prairie and in the Korean War serving in the Aleutian Islands. He worked as a supply system analyst at Fort Wolters, Stuttgart, Germany and retired from the Red River Army Depot in Hooks, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Sims of 63 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Rosie Sims and a brother, Bill Sims. He leaves behind three daughters: Pam and husband John Samford of Aledo, Texas, Frances and husband Mackey Watkins of Denison, Texas, and Susan Sims Reed of Kiowa, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Brandi Jean Harper, Jason Ryan Harper, Miranda Samford, Rachel Samford Cohen, Maegan Reed Mason and Hunter Christian Reed, and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 6, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sturdivant Cemetery in Mineral Wells, Texas.
