Deloris Jean “Granny” Massie, 81, of Lovington, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025. Born on May 27, 1943, in Salesville, Texas, she lived a life defined by compassion, devotion to family, and unwavering kindness.
Jeannie was the daughter of Fannie Lee Perkins and Sidney Emory Wilkins Jr. She grew up in Texas and graduated from Mineral Wells High School before pursuing her passion for caregiving at Weatherford College, where she studied nursing. Her nurturing spirit would go on to define every chapter of her life.
A devoted wife, Jeannie shared a deep and enduring love with her husband, Charles Vester Massie. Their bond was the cornerstone of her world. She lovingly cared for him throughout their life together until his passing—a testament to her steadfast heart and selfless nature.
Jeannie’s greatest joy came from being a mother and grandmother. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Charles Michael Massie and his wife Rhonda; Debbie Massie; Shawn Massie and his wife Helen; Dalton Massie and his wife Jadyn; Dusty Massie and his wife Madelyn; and Sheena Massie. Brothers Murrell Bridge’s, Ellis Bridges. Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her home was always open—filled with warmth, laughter, and the comforting presence of someone who truly knew how to make others feel loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Vester Massie, beloved daughter Paula Ann Massie (Curtner), her son Timothy Sid Massie, her sister Barbara Ann Upton, her brother Raymond “Catfish” Hall, and her parents.
Jeannie’s faith was an integral part of her life. A devoted Baptist, she lived out the values of grace and generosity each day. Known for her radiant smile and gentle demeanor, Jeannie had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel like family. Whether caring for grandchildren or welcoming friends into her home with open arms, she embodied love in action.
Her legacy lives on not only through her children, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, but also through the countless lives she touched with kindness that knew no bounds. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Memorial services are 2 pm, Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home so all family and friends can attend that wish to do so, followed by graveside memorial at Holders Chapel Cemetery in Cool Texas.
