David L. Spear

d. January 1, 1900

David L. Spear went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 5th 2012. From his home in Alvin TX, he caught the ten AM express to heaven seated in first class as his wife and children bade their final farewells. David came into this world in 1919 at the small town of Thurber in Palo Pinto County TX and his childhood schooling was at Gordon TX. As a teenager during the great depression, David joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), serving in Ojai California and Dallas Texas. He met his life partner of seventy-two years, Clara Gene Whatley of Mineral Wells TX, in 1938; marrying her on Veterans Day in 1939. As with many counterparts, he served in the US Army Pacific Theater during World War II. His bride Clara, who he lovingly called Toots', with two young sons, met him as he returned home in 1946. As they joined the spirit of other energetic young families in post-war America, two daughters followed to complete their dream of the model family. Ninety-three years after his birth in Thurber TX; David joins his parents and siblings in our Father's Paradise. His passing was as gentle and subtle as his unassuming, remarkable life. His last moments included a cute smile, the one that captured her heart in 1939, to his bride; promising a new beginning of their love in eternity.David left a trove of descendants he and Toots' reared, guided, taught and loved. He is survived by his loving wife, Clara "Toots", Dave and Elgie Spear of San Diego CA, Sam and Dovie Spear of Las Vegas NV, VeeCee and Billy Joe Marshall of Brenham TX and Bette and Norman Robertson of Alvin TX. The number builds; including twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and three great, great, grandchildren. The human values taught and willed to his descendants; through the positive, living example of a decent, God fearing, gentle man, cannot be expressed at any price.Services for David will be at the First Baptist Church of Mineral Wells TX at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 9th, followed by final interment at the Indian Creek cemetery west of Mineral Wells. Family and friends may attend a final viewing at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home on Friday, June 8th between six and eight PM.In lieu of flowers, please make donations in David's name to the Beltway 8 South Crisis Pregnancy Center, 10851 Scarsdale Blvd., Suite 800, Houston TX 77089.
