Charlie R. Holmes, 84, of Mineral Wells, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010, in Mineral Wells. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday at the Central United Methodist Church. Rev. Jim Sanders will officiate at the services. Burial will be at the Woodland Park Cemetery and the grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Friday at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel.Charlie was born October 5, 1925, in Archer County, TX the son of Thomas Walter and Alma Phillips Holmes. He was a machinist and worked in Lehman's Machine Shop for 30 years, beginning when it was called Bateman's Machine Shop. He married Clara Virginia Means on December 5, 1944, in Weatherford, TX. Charlie Holmes served in WWII in the US Army 17th Airborne Division, was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Millsap, and was Past Master of the Millsap Masonic Lodge # 1265.He is survived by wife, Clara Holmes of Mineral Wells; sons, Barry Holmes and wife, Margie of Mineral Wells, and Walter Holmes and wife, Nancy of Plain Dealing, LA; grandchildren, Melinda Holmes, Sheila and Bob Unwin and Joshua Holmes of Mineral Wells, Jerry and Joanne Holmes of Perrin, TX, Teresa and Dextor Brent of New Caney, TX, Charlie and Nancy Holmes of Little Elm, TX.; great-grandchildren, John Unwin, Jared, Jake, and Jaylee Holmes, Adrianna, Taylor, and Keegan Brent; sister, Eda Weeks of Mineral Wells; brother-in-law, Morris Dean of Mineral Wells; numerous nieces and nephews.
