Services for Charles W. Simmons III of Mineral Wells, who went to be with the Lord on November 22, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer, will be held at the Baum Carlock Bumgardner Chapel on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:00 AM, with burial at Woodland Park Cemetery.Charles was born December 1, 1930, in North Carolina but was raised in Jacksonville Florida. He served in the U.S. Air Force from July 13, 1951 until July 12, 1955, which brought him to Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells where he met and married Johnowene "Johnnie" Oliver on June 26, 1955, who preceded him in death on November 10, 1996. On January 8, 2000 he married Wanda Beaty who also preceded him in death on January 29, 2003.Charles is survived by daughters Teresa Baum of Mineral Wells, Sheila Sudderth and husband Mike of Lake Palo Pinto, two grandchildren, Brandi Lee of Mineral Wells, and Jay Baum of Mineral Wells, a brother Allan Simmons and wife Faye of Florida, a sister Barbara Edenfield also of Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a son Brian Richard Simmons on January 18, 1973.Charles was employed by Cantex, the U.S. Post Office, and Mineral Wells Pipe and Supply in Mineral Wells.Charles loved his family very much and was especially proud of his grandchildren Brandi and Jay. Charles enjoyed working in his yard, watching sports, fishing in Port Aransas, and his dogs Mandy and Sawyer. He will be dearly missed by his family.Pallbearers will be Jay Baum, Ryan Sudderth, Hubert Edenfield, Mike McAllester, Ira Mercer and Randy Ezell.Honorary Pallbearers are the Wal Mart Coffee Drinkers of which he was a proud member.Family visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Tuesday, November 24th""at Baum Carlock Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells.Special thanks to PPGH Oncology Department, the Vitas Hospice field staff, and the Vitas Hospice Unit at Baylor All Saints for their exceptional and compassionate care.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to PPGH Oncology Department, Vitas Hospice or Southside Church of Christ.
