Charles Cassidy Shewmake

July 10, 1937 — March 8, 2023

Charles Cassidy Shewmake was born to Sam and Bessie Shewmake on July 10, 1937.

He graduated at the age of 16 from Mineral Wells High School. Charles attended Weatherford College and then pursued his Bachelors degree in Marketing at University of North Texas. Charles never used the Marketing degree.

Charles met the love of his life, Betty, in Mineral Wells. They were married on July 18, 1958. Charles began teaching elementary children at Springtown ISD. Charles spent the rest of his career in the education field. Charles and Betty moved back to Mineral Wells in 1960. He was a 5th grade teacher at Travis Elementary for a year and then moved to Mineral Wells High School as a business teacher. Charles wore many hats during his career at  Mineral Wells. He served as the Vocational Education director and then later as the Assistant Superintendent of Finance for the schools until his retirement 2001. During his career at Mineral Wells he was able to give his nieces and his two nephews their high school diplomas at their Mineral Wells High School graduation. Charles came out of retirement in 2007 to serve the school district once again as the financial supervisor for the building of Ram Stadium.

Charles was better known as "Unc" to his family. He loved his family and always put everyone before himself. Unc enjoyed cooking Sunday lunches for his brother Bobby and his family.   Charles spent his retirement years enjoying golfing with Bobby and Sam, hunting with Sam and  spending time with his family.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Sam Shewmake, his brother, Bobby, his sister, Margaret Jane, cousins Joe Shewmake, Metha Shewmake and June Croushorn.  He is survived by his wife, Betty of nearly 65 years, his sister-in-law, Patricia and a niece Stefany Johnston, husband Jonny, her children Robert and Lily, nephews, Sam, Bob, his daughter, Gracie, his cousins Stacy Croushorn, Sheila Guckian, Billie Harrison and Sharon Puckett.

Service will be 10 AM Saturday at Salesville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Salesville Cemetery.
