Charles Adrian Coleman passed away peacefully on May 4, 2021 in Mineral Wells, Texas after 92 years filled with love, family, adventure and laughter. Charles was born on December 27, 1928 in Splendora, Texas, where he lived until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1947. He returned to East Texas with an honorable discharge, where he met Betty Berryman, whom he wed on February 21, 1951. A few years later, Charles and Betty settled in Deer Park, Texas, where he worked in the petrochemical industry while they raised four children.
After retirement, Charles and Betty moved to Mineral Wells, Texas in 1999 where he spent his time enjoying family, playing the piano, dancing, cutting Betty’s rose bushes back too far, and holding her hand. He stayed fit well into his 80s by mowing his lawn, riding his bicycle and taking long walks.
Charles will be remembered for his loyalty, integrity, faith and wisdom, as well as a lifelong curiosity and love of learning. His family will sorely miss his humor, sometimes clever and witty, sometimes silly, but always delivered with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Vida Coleman, and six siblings, Vernon, Mildred, Christine, Harmon Phillip, Wiley Monroe and Alice. He leaves behind a large family who are grateful for their time with him. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty Berryman Coleman; his four children, Cindy Brown, Charles Coleman, Steve Coleman and Kathy Fortson; his five grandchildren, Amie, Amanda, Jeremy, Travis and Kelly; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Martha Utzman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for family and close friends will be held at Woodland Park Cemetery, 3600 S. Oak Ave., in Mineral Wells on Friday, May 14th at 10:30 a.m.
