Carol Boyd Huitt, age 93, died October 25, 2015 in San Antonio, TX where she has resided for the past 3 ½ years. She was born February 13, 1922 in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, the daughter of Victor Cortez Boyd and Beulah Jones Boyd. She graduated from Fairview-Alpha Schools in 1938 and went on to attend Northwestern State University of Louisiana in Natchitoches, Louisiana where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1942.Although her early career included the position of assistant dietitian at the E. A. Conway Memorial Hospital in Monroe, Louisiana, the majority of her professional life was dedicated to 28 years as a teacher. She retired in 1985 after 22 years with Mineral Wells ISD.In addition to her membership in the Vocational Homemaking Teachers Association of Texas and the Texas Retired Teacher Association, Carol served in various capacities of several Mineral Wells organizations such as the Mineral Wells Junior History Club, the Woman's Club, the Mineral Wells Heritage Association, and the Palo Pinto General Hospital Auxiliary.She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mineral Wells for over 50 years. While serving as their Women's Missionary Union director in the late 1980's, she was one of twenty-three Texas Baptist volunteers invited by the government of mainland China to teach English to adults under a program of the Foreign Mission Board in the summer of 1989. Already packed and ready to leave, she received a call that the Mission Service Corps had cancelled the summer teaching program because of the uprising at Tiananmen Square.Carol was preceded in death by a son, Michael Boyd Huitt, in 1997. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Huitt Raaz of Lafayette, Louisiana and a son, John Stephen Huitt and his wife, Brenda, of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Mineral Wells, Texas. Interment will follow at Woodland Park Cemetery in Mineral Wells. Family visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home.
