Butch Stagner

Carlton "Butch" Daye Stagner, Jr., 72, died peacefully in his sleep at home on Sunday, October 1, 2017. Butch was surrounded by family and friends while he battled lung cancer. Funeral service is at 2 p.m., Thursday, October 5, at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home Chapel in Mineral Wells, Texas. A private burial with family will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Weatherford, Texas. Butch was born on December 18, 1944 in Ranger, Texas, to Carlton Daye, Sr., and Zettie Faye Stagner. He grew up in Ranger, Texas, graduated high school in 1962 and attended Ranger Junior College. He married Barbara Clark in 1965 in Dallas, Texas. They made their home in Dallas, then Fort Worth and later Mineral Wells, Texas. In 1994, Butch married his second wife, Iris. He and Iris were married until her death in 2012. Butch was a licensed broker selling real estate in Mineral Wells for approximately 40 years. He was a past member of the Mineral Wells Jaycees, served on the board of directors of the Palo Pinto County Appraisal District from 1992 - 2015, and served on the Appraisal Review Board for four years. Butch was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed camping, hiking and restoring guns. Butch is survived by his two sons, Brett Stagner, Sr., and wife Maria, and Brian Stagner and wife Amy, and stepdaughters Felicia Harvey and husband Xavier, and Amanda Kinser and husband Will. Grandchildren, Brett Stagner, Jr., Brendan Stagner, Claire Stagner, Katie Stagner, Jose Caballero, Valentina Walls, Folee Hall, Sage Harvey, and Alex and Mark Kinser, and great grandchildren Keaton and Zoe Walls, along with a host of family and friends. He is preceded in death by his second wife, Iris Stagner, his father and mother, two sisters, Dorothy Goforth and Sonja Varner, and nephew Skipper Varner. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 4, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Chapel at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the Cancer Research Institute at cancerresearch.org or 25 Broadway, New York, N.Y, 10006.
