Billy Earl Van Deren, Senior Chief Legalman, U.S. Navy, passed away March 12, 2024 at his home in Millsap, TX at the age of 78. He was born in Denison, TX to Billie Bradshaw Van Deren and Sarah Elizabeth (Darby) Van Deren on April 20, 1945. He is survived by his wife, Heather Thomas Van Deren of Millsap; son, Charles Van Deren of Paris, TX; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Gillett of Mineral Wells, TX and Paula Van Deren Abeyta (husband Robert Abeyta) of Albuquerque, NM. Billy was loved by many and had numerous nieces, a nephew, several grandchildren, as well as some “bonus” grandchildren he loved dearly. His parents preceded him in death.
Billy enjoyed a long career in the U.S. Navy. Enrolling at 17 years old, Billy served 22 years, with time aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, USS St. Paul and USS Nimitz. He earnednumerous medals, awards and citations, including Vietnam Service medal with 4 bronze stars . Retiring from the U.S. Navy, Billy used his experience to serve 27 years in Civil Service. He retired from his last post as a Paralegal with the JAG Office at the NASJRB in Ft. Worth TX.
After serving his country for almost 50 years, Billy spent his retirement with his beloved wife, Heather, on the Triple T Farm, raising award-winning and champion Angus show cattle. Billy was a born-again faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ and was fully supportive of his wife in her Christian music ministry (HTV Ministries). Billy was quick to share fun stories, encourage others and also loved handing out “Full Armor of God” challenge coins to selective men in the body of Christ.
Services for Billy Earl Van Deren will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 10th at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211. Pastor Clint Chesney will officiate.
In lieu of flowers it is requested donations be made to HTV Ministries or a Christian ministry of your choice.
