Billy Lee "Bill" Medlin, 78, of Mineral Wells, Texas, passed away Tuesday February 12, 2013 in a Fort Worth hospital. Services will be Sunday February 17 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells, Texas. Graveside service is at Palo Pinto Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday February 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home. Bill was born in Cairo, Illinois on April 9, 1934, the son of Forest and Margaret Moore Medlin. He played little league baseball with Hall of Famer, Al Kaline, as a youth in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Baltimore City College and was in the class of 1953 of Mineral Wells High School. He joined the US Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. He married Marlene "Marge" Goldston Medlin on June 2, 1955. He worked many years as the Manager of the Cable Television Systems and Manufacturing, Instructor at Southern Airways during Vietnam War, and retired in 2009 as a Computer Instructor from Corrections Corporation of America after 20 years of service. He was active in his community serving as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor of Mineral Wells for many generations, was involved in the Chamber of Commerce, and was a Reserve Police Officer with the Highway Patrol and City Police. He was very involved in the Masonic Lodge. He served in many roles including past Master of Mineral Wells Lodge #611, past District Deputy of Masonic District # 113, past Commander of the Commandery, past High Priest of the Chapter, past Thrice Illustrious Master of the Council and was a member of the Moslah Shrine. He also received awards including his KYCH pin from the York Rite and the 50 year service award from the Grand Lodge of Texas and from the Texas York Rite bodies. Other accomplishments included past president of the Texas Cable Television Association, received the "John Mankin Award" from the Texas Cable Television Association in 1983, past President of the Mineral Wells Rotary Club, past Commander of the American Legion Post 75, and past member of the Kiwanis Club. He has also been a member of the First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells for many years. He is survived by his wife Marge Medlin, three children, Mark Medlin, Shelley Ramsey and husband Owen, Leslee Barham and husband Allen, grandchildren Ashley Barham, Chase Barham and wife Ashli, Rachel Lively and husband Thomas, Kaylee Sparks and husband Kit, and PS2(SW) Cody Ramsey, great-grandchildren Kayden and Kenzlee Sparks and Preston Lively, brother Earl Medlin and wife Linda, numerous nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Pete Medlin and one nephew Ricky Medlin.
