Bettye Choate "Honey" Boone, passed away quietly at her home, Tuesday, August 25, 2009 in Abilene. Services will be 10 am Friday at the Holders Chapel United Methodist Church with burial in the Holders Chapel Cemetery.Mrs. Boone was born January 16, 1933 in Mineral Wells, the daughter of Powell Blevins "Red" and Katie Mae Wilkins Choate and lived in Mineral Wells until 1953. She was the first born out of eight children. She was the proud wife of Lester "Blackie" Boone who preceded her in death May 25, 1978. Bettye was proud of the fact she was the youngest waitress at the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells. She was also a restaurant owner, Executive Housekeeper at the Holiday Inn until her retirement and then she became a "gold winning" grandmother. In 1979 she won the second place award as the "Executive Housekeeper of the Year" out of a field of the top 100. After setting down from her gold mining excursions she loved hand sewing with her late mother and two daughters, making little pillows and aprons. Later in life her greatest pleasure was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She is survived by three children, Shirley Ann Burt and husband John, Alan Michael Boone of Abilene and Leslye Kaye Ferral all of Abilene; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dickie and Carolyn Choate, Oscar and Cindy Choate and Walter and Shirley Choate all of Mineral Wells; sisters and brother-in-law, Pat and Fred Storermer ofBedford, Nancy Bivins of White Settlement and Martha Martin of Burleson; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Choate.
