Betty Earlene Brown Scott was born in Rocky Fork, CO on October 30, 1922, just before midnight. She was the love and light of her parents, Charles Earl Brown and Edith Blanche Skeels Brown Sayre. Betty left this earthly home for her Heavenly mansion on October 13, 2018. Betty's memorial will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 20 at Fairview Baptist Church, 1062 Fairview Rd, Mineral Wells. Betty spent a very full 95 years of life on this earth and met more people in those years than you can only imagine, which most of them became her friend. Betty was an only child and that's only because they broke the mold when she was borngrowing up during the depression she started her working career at the age of twelve babysitting and waiting tables. By the age of seventeen she took a job at a ranch cooking for the cowboys in Salina, CO, not the Dallas Cowboys that she loved, but true hard working boys and men. Betty graduated high school from Manitou Springs, CO. At the age of 18 Betty's father was killed in a trucking accident that turned her and her mother to go to work supporting World War II. Her mother was a Riveter at Lockheed and Betty worked at San Pedro, CA Shipyards. During a brief marriage, Betty was blessed with her first of many children, William Earl Dolash. Betty later met and thought she was marrying her rich Texan, Lawrence Oscar Scott, who then blessed her with two more children, Sandra Jean Scott and James "Jim" Lawrence Scott from a previous marriage. Together they started their journey of almost 50 years with two more children, George Albert Scott and Donna Rae Scott. In 1956 they moved to Texas, the home state of Lawrence, and started raising their kids on a farm north of Mineral Wells. There they taught them the lessons of hard work from milking cows for milk and butter to raising chickens for eggs and plucking feathers for pillows and Sunday dinner, to working hogs for pork and the garden for all their vegetables. When all her children started school, Betty started her new working career as Society Editor for the Mineral Wells Index. Betty also worked at Fort Wolters Supply Center where she ordered 2 Deuce an ½ trucks and when they arrived by train to the base they all went outside to watch them come in and there were 22 trucks being deliveredBetty never did anything in a small way! From there she worked at Beach Army Hospital until the base closed. Betty also worked for KORC Radio Station, opened the first dress shop on Possum Kingdom Lake, "The BeachComber" and designed the bumper sticker "Where the Hell is Possum Kingdom Lake?". Betty and Lawrence owned and operated Sandbar and North Shore Marina on PK Lake . Betty also worked for Surgery Associates and Palo Pinto General Hospital where she was proud to serve two terms on the hospital board. Betty's greatest joy was people, she would talk to anyone anywhere and about anything. Betty loved to cook for everyone; holidays were always a feast at her house. She loved her Bingo, crossword puzzles, cards, reading and telling life stories. Betty rode in rodeos, on motorbikes and waterskied, ballroom danced, shuffleboard and was the best prankster and joker around. Betty was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and the first female in Mineral Wells to become a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Troop leader. Her last years were playing Bingo and beating Donna at Phase 10 cards. Betty hopes that her family remembers that she had hers, he had his and together they made us. In this world of differences we never knew we were not anything but family, only by blood and that does not make a true loving giving family.
