Bernice LaVerne Goen

Bernice LaVerne (Willhite) Goen was born on January 25, 1942 to Jesse Franklin Willhite and Annie Frio (Ford) Willhite in San Antonio, Texas. Bernice passed away on August 10, 2023.

Bernice met William (Billy) Fred Goen in Mineral Wells, Texas and they married August 13, 1960 in Parker County. They had two sons, William Fred Jr. and Jimmy Lee.

Bernice completed her LVN license and worked as a nurse at the Crazy Water Hotel, Nazareth Hospital, for Dr. Messer, Home Health, traveling nurse, and the emergency and operating room at Palo Pinto General Hospital for many years.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Billy her husband of 49 years in 2009, a daughter in law Sybil (Goen) Hamscher and two brother in laws, Larry Jack Goen and David Goen.

Bernice leaves behind her two sons, Bill Goen and wife Dollie and Jimmy Goen and wife Lela. She had four grandkids, Ed Goen and wife Candance, Brittney Pearson and husband Cody, Erika Griffin and husband Cody, and Blaine Goen.  She also had five great grandchildren, Riley and Corey Goen, Paxton Pearson, and Addison and Camden Griffin.  Bernice is also survived by two brother in laws, Curtis Goen and wife Wenda and Bobby Goen and wife Eldonna, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to Mineral Wells Nursing and Rehab for all the love and care provided to “Bernie” in her final years.  They are pretty sure each of these employees would agree nurses are the hardest patients. She has been described as spicy and quite a firecracker at times.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 19th, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Palo Pinto First Baptist Church in Palo Pinto Texas.
