Barbara Jane (Mickey) Baggett was born in Ranger, Texas to Alvin Dewey Tanner and Ufama Lovelle Tanner on December 20, 1935. She danced her way into the arms of Jesus on March 7, 2022 in Odessa, Texas.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, March 10 at Graford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
She was known by many names. At birth she was given the name of Barbara. She was quickly "renamed" by her older brother. That was the name Mickey, by which most people know her. Her three children each typically called her by three different names. First was Mom, then Momma and Mother. To her grandchildren, she was Grandma. To her great-grandchildren she was Gigi. By any name, she was a blessing to all who knew her.
Mickey met Howard Lowell Baggett at the age of ten in Ranger, Texas. Howard was fifteen at the time. She told him on the day they met that she was going to marry him one day, and she did! They were married on January 31, 1950. He was definitely the love of her life. They were able to share fifty-five years of marriage before he went to be with the Lord on December 30, 2005.
Mickey was a homemaker for the majority of her life, beginning at the age of 15. She was more than a homemaker and a wife though. Because Howard worked many hours in the oil fields of west Texas, the responsibility of raising their three children fell mostly on her. They raised their children to be respectful, independent, kind, loving and most important of all, followers of Christ.
Mickey was a giving person with a servant's heart. If she had something to give, she was giving it, especially when it came to her family. She was a woman who loved deeply and completely and her life was a testimony to that. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, her son Happy Baggett, sisters Joy Honea and Susie Merchant, brothers "Yokey" Tanner and AJ Tanner.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Pete Baggett of Granbury, Texas, daughter and son-in-law Wynama and Russell Sharp of Odessa, Texas, grandchildren ( her hearts) Richard Baggett, Maggie Shori, Jessica Howard, Jarrod Baggett, Lauren Barajas, D'Nett Sheehan and Darren Sharp. She is also survived by 16 great-granchildren (hearts), of which she was extremely proud, two "sisters", Christine Tanner of Cisco, Texas and Corene Tanner of Dumas, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
All of these, she loved a Bushel and a Peck!
