Annie Gayler

Annie Muriel Masters Gayler passed into the Loving Arms of her Lord on September 2, 2012 at Lakewell House in Mineral Wells, Texas surrounded by her loving family. She was 97 years old. Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Mineral Wells at 10:00 AM on September 6, 2012 with Reverend Lianne Turner officiating. Interment will be at Woodland Park Cemetery also in Mineral Wells. Visitation will be Wednesday September 5, 2012 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home. Pall Bearers: Jesse Miller, Jim Mullins, Bill Berry, David Wheat, Bob Richards, and Billy Ellis. Annie was born on May 10, 1915 in Tolar, Texas to Fred Hulen Masters and Mary Sally Bloodworth Masters. Her family moved with their jobs until they finally settled in Palo Pinto County cira 1929. She attended and graduated from Progress School south of Mineral Wells. It was there that she met the love of her life, William (Bill) H. Gayler. From the beginning they knew that they would be life-long partners. Prior to their marriage Annie worked as a hair dresser at the Baker Hotel. After they married, Annie Muriel and Bill moved to Mineral Wells where they opened Gayler Grocery Store in or about 1936. Times were hard. They not only sold groceries to the community (most often on credit) and they contributed to the community in many ways. She was in every way his work partner at the grocery store and in rearing a family. In 1963, they sold the grocery store and became involved in the insurance and real estate business until they retired. Annie was a faith-full member of First United Methodist Church for some 71 years where she taught children's Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served on many of the church committees. She and Bill were members of the Come Double Sunday school class. They contributed to all areas of the church with their time and talents. Annie was a member of the Eastern Star, Prudence Chapter and served as Worthy Matron. She was also a volunteered with the PPGH Auxiliary and was member of the Blue Bonnet Garden Club. Annie was preceded in death by her husband William. She is survived by her daughter Mary Zane Dunn; son William H. (Hank) Gayler and his wife Judy of Mineral Wells; grandsons Robert Gayler, David Gayler and his wife Karen of Fort Worth, grand-daughter Kristen Jenkins and her husband Jeff of Shelby Township, Michigan; and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church food bank.
