Mineral Wells, TX - Alton Reedy, a beloved husband, father, and valued member of the community, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2023, at the age of 94. He was born on September 19, 1929, in Mineral Wells, Texas, to his loving parents, Robert and Florence Reedy. Alton, known for his strong work ethic and kind heart, served as a Heavy Equipment Operator in the Civil Service industry. He dedicated many years to his profession, ensuring the smooth operations of various projects. Alton's commitment and skills gained him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and friends. Alton was very proud of his military service in the Army Reserves and would often tell stories about his escapades as a Tank Commander. He was a very active member for many years in the Palo Pinto County Sheriff's Posse (serving as Captain in 1997) as well as a member of the Palo Pinto County Livestock Association. He and Hazel were leaders in the Palo Pinto County 4-H program, receiving special recognition for their efforts working with local youth. Alton was also a rancher and farmer, with his Pecans winning state level competitions through the Texas A&M Extension Service. Alton's greatest pride was in his family. Alton married Hazel Jean Snow on August 25th, 1951. They were blessed with 2 sons and 2 daughters as well as 5 grandsons and 9 great grandchildren. His entire family referred to him as "Grandpa" which is a name and title he cherished. Alton loved to spend time with his grandchildren and would stop any project he was working on to play on the floor and enjoy time with them, often making them laugh by spitting out his dentures at them. Alton was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd Alton. He is survived by his wife Hazel, son George Eldon (Elaine) Reedy, as well as Daughters Joanna Lea (David) Slimp and Alta Jean (Mike) Hopkins. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jason (Jamie) Reedy, Brian (Amanda) Slimp, Robert (Alicia) Slimp, Matthew Hopkins, and Jared (Haley) Hopkins. His great grandchildren are Logan Reedy, Braelyn Slimp, Hunter Slimp, Jesse Slimp, Ryder Burrow, Olivia Stoker, Colby Slimp, Hazel Slimp, Lillie Slimp, and Hallie Hopkins. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service to remember Alton will take place at on September 25th at 2:00 pm at Indian Creek Baptist Church. A Public Viewing will be held on September 24, 2023, at 5:00 pm at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel. In his final resting place at Indian Creek Cemetery, Alton will be laid to rest, surrounded by the beautiful landscape he called home. His legacy of hard work, compassion, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.His grandsons will serve as pall bearers. George Alton Reedy will be dearly missed but never forgotten. His memory will continue to inspire and uplift us all. May he rest in eternal peace.
