Alice Elizabeth Whitley joined her family in Heaven after a defiant battle with cancer, on January 10, 2025 in Sweetwater, TX. Alice was born in Sweetwater 83 years earlier on March 20,1941 to Raymond and Mazelle Pennell. She is survived by her devoted husband, the love of her life for 64.5 years, Benny Whitley, her children and their spouses, Vonnie Pennell, Nita Spurlock, Jake Whitley, and Lynn Smallwood. She was an awesome Granny and aunt to dozens of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and anyone else that called her Granny or Aunt Alice!
Alice was an amazing cook, making candies and cookies during the holidays but sometimes year-round, if you asked her nicely. She was a talented and detailed seamstress, making everything from clothing to curtains to elaborate quilts designed by her husband. She loved to play Yahtzee and 42 and would play with anyone that asked her at the drop of a hat! You could sit around her kitchen table talking for hours on end and never have more than a few seconds of silence. She was a great listener and storyteller. She could be sweet, salty and at times very spicy! She was firm in her beliefs but she made sure everyone that entered her home felt like they were part of her family. She was a good neighbor and truly loved her community in Santo. She will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, a brother and John Wayne.
A celebration of life will take place at 11:00am on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Santo Baptist Church.
