Albert Louis "Papa or Smitty" Schmidt, 90 years of age, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 17, 2010 in Mineral Wells. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Leaning Tree Church with burial following at the Willow Pond Cemetery. Rev. Scott Poyner will officiate at the services, the pallbearers will be Cecil Huddleston, Butch Unerfusser, Robert Unerfusser, Shane Schmidt, Kevin Schmidt, Bradley Schmidt, Casey Royer, Clifton Howeth and the honorary pallbearer will be Justin Hagood. Visitation will be 7 PM - 9 PM Wednesday at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home.Albert was born March 11, 1920 in Columbus, TX, the son of Albert Louis, Sr. and Olga Bauer Schmidt. He met and married Mildred Allen Case in 1942 in Wharton Co., TX. They had 60 wonderful years together. He raised ten children while working in the oil field and at Dow Chemical. Later in life the Mineral Wells community would remember him for throwing the Palo Pinto Shopper and know him as "Papa" Schmidt.Albert was preceded in death by his parents Albert l. Schmidt, Sr. and Olga Bauer Schmidt, his wife, Mildred Allen Schmidt, his siblings, Henry Schmidt, Gracie Gunter, Marvin Schmidt and Viola Mare Fox; daughters, Kimberly Evon Schmidt and Sandy and husband Jim Rilley; and grandson, Cody Ray Schmidt.He is survived by his children and their spouses, Ann and Jack Burns, Betty and Billy Fox, Tommy and Janie Schmidt, Sue and Joey Hagood, Kenny and Pam Schmidt, Jerry and Sherry Schmidt, Kathy and Harold Froehmer, Terrie Glover and Ricky McCoy; brother, Gene Schmidt; sister, Willis Louise Stefan; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
