February 28, 2020 72-year-old Alan Herschel West of Palo Pinto, Texas died after a brief illness. Born in Mineral Wells, Texas January 21, 1948 to Herschel West (deceased) and Chavella Wyatt West (deceased). A brother, Gary West, of Possum Kingdom, Texas also preceded him in death.
Alan was a larger than life character with a great sense of humor and a big heart. As a young man he worked at Seybold Dude Ranch, breaking horses; spent many years working in the oil field and eventually became owner operator in trucking.
Survivors include his wife, Martha (Whatley) West of Palo Pinto; two sons, H.D. Arthur and wife Lindsey of Weatherford, Texas and Terry Lee Arthur and wife Fonda of Mineral Wells; step daughter, Amanda Whatley of Wichita Falls, Texas; two stepsons, Damon Whatley and wife Amber of Wichita Falls and Michael Arthur and wife Courtney of Mineral Wells; sisters, Janet Wilber and husband Dave of Bozrah, CT, Susan Grant and husband Jeff of Weatherford; sister-in-law Linda West of Possum Kingdom, Texas; brothers, Randy West, Roger West and wife Sherri, Mark West and wife Patti all of Mineral Wells. He is also survived by seven granddaughters, two grandsons, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2020 at the United Methodist Church of Palo Pinto. Noon on Saturday, March 7, 2020 family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life for Alan at the VFW Post 2399 in Mineral Wells to have lunch and share memories.
